A letter went home regarding when we take our MCA tests in the next couple of weeks.
MCA reading will be on April 4th and April 5th MCA math will be on April 27th and 28th Your students have been working so hard this year, focusing on how we read stories and why. As well as diving into different genres. In math several new concepts have been introduced in the past couple of months: multiplication, division and fractions. If there are every questions please feel free to let me know your questions and I will help in any way that I can! Happy Spring! This week we will working in the media center and participating in the hour of coding. This is a great resource for students to start using problem solving skills and using logic to create something.
We will be in the lab this week to get started but if your child would like to continue working on it at home here is the link they can go to. https://studio.code.org/sections/JURLGQ We will be putting any usernames and passwords in our agendas so that they are with us at home and at school. If you have any questions please let Ms. Foley know. We are very excited to start writing code! Time sure has been flying! Our last couple of weeks have been jammed packed with events and projects. Our class has just finished their keynote presentations they have been working on in the computer lab. They are fabulous. We are trying to find a way to get them to be viewed at home. We also have been busy working on how to pick fit books for us and still challenge ourselves. In math we have completed our geometry unit about quadrilaterals and we continue to work on story problems and finding helpful words to solve the problem.
Our next states packet will be coming home this Friday. We will keep having conversations about how to use some time management skills so this is not a headache before the due date. Again if you have any questions or concerns please let me know and we will get everything taken care of. Happy October everyone! It is hard to believe it is already October. This week we have conferences on Thursday and then Tuesday and Wednesday of the following week. Everyone should have gotten a conference reminder, if you still have not seen that please let me know.
We also have pictures on Tuesday this week. If you are ordering pictures please fill out the picture form and have your child bring it back to school. I will make sure it gets in the right hands. This week we will be finishing up our first math unit about place value and our social studies unit with Mrs. Rudolph. In language arts we are going to keep working on building our stamina in reading and writing as well as working through parts of speech and main idea. Lastly a reminder that next Wednesday, Thursday and Friday the students don't have school! Enjoy the break Happy Last start to everyone! It is hard to believe that it is almost October. This upcoming week we will be starting our switches with social studies and science. We are also going to continue working on place value in math.
The states packet that came home this last week is not due until October 30th. There was a little bit of confusion with flag portion of the packet. We brainstormed some ideas together: so gluing in a copy of the flag, writing a description or just drawing it in the box on the bottom would work. Sorry for any confusion that brought. You also get a conference reminder sheet last Friday in every students mailbox. Please fill it out and return it as soon as possible since conferences are a week away. If there are any conflicts please let me know and I will try to find some other time that will work for the both us! Happy Friday everyone! I hope you have been managing the rapid change in temperatures like we have been trying to do! This week we were very successful in finishing up our MAP reading assessment. We will be finishing up our MAP math assessment on Monday and Thursday of next week.
Next week we will also be starting our Science/ Social Studies rotations. Our class is going to start with me and we will be covering space and the solar system. A reminder that homework will be coming home on Mondays and it is due that Wednesday. They will get one more math sheet on Thursday that will be due the following Monday. We are trying to get our students to be more responsible and independent so we are going to stick to this schedule so they know what is expected out of them! Thanks again for those who have contacted me when they were wondering something or my directions were unclear! I hope you have an awesome weekend! Happy first week of school!! We have been having a great time together. We have done many activities to build our classroom community and learn from each other. A few things to just clarify.
1. Agendas - each day your child should be bringing home their agenda and showing it to you. They should also be reading 20 minutes each night. They will be earning 3rd grade bucks for getting it signed, reading 20 minutes and bringing it to me each day. 2. Please remember to have gym shoes on our gym days. There is a schedule attached on this website to know which days we have gym. An easy trick is to leave a pair at school in their locker. 3. Buses - afternoon buses should be getting squared away by the end of the week. Thanks for your patience if your child came home later than their intended time. 4. MAP testing - next week we will start with our reading MAP test. We will have the specific days written in our agendas. Thanks for your support this week. If you have any questions or are wondering about anything please feel free to contact me! We have also been working very hard to complete and present our demonstration speeches the last week and a half. I will continue to post them as we finish them this week. They all did a great job and were so creative!
Hello all, sorry it looks like it has been a couple weeks since I posted. We are back into the swing of school again. We are very lucky at MHES to have 2 Chinese teachers here to teach us simple Chinese words and about their culture. Here are some pictures of us learning about how to say different sounds in Chinese. We will have Chinese class for another 2 weeks! See if your child can remember their Chinese name!
